Update on Sri Lanka

As was posted in the news this weekend, the fighting in Sri Lanka that has been going on for more than 25 years has ended. We are still waiting for word from our contacts on the ground in the Batticaloa/Navalady area. We know that the need is great for homes in the Navalady region. The fighting has taken a toll on the country, rebuilding it will not be easy, but we are looking forward to the challenge of helping.

Sri Lanka

We have heard from our contact in Batticaloa Sri Lanka, the situation there is very intense and hectic. There are suicides in the Eastern University of Sri Lanka, kidnappings and killing of children. The residents are panicing. The schools have been closed. Life in Batticaloa has come to stand still.

It is so sad, hopefully the fighitng will come to end soon, there was a report on CNN that said almost 400 civilians had been killed in a no-fire zone.

Many are still trying to rebuild their lives after the Tsunami and now the escalation of violence.

We will keep you posted on the situation and any support that we may be able to give. Our goal is to make Navalady, where we have a school, a model village for rehabilitation work after the Tsunami, this can be accomplished only with our amazing contacts on the ground in Sri Lanka.
