Thailand
San Felipe Humanitarian Alliance (SFHA) /International Rescue Committee (IRC) Partnership
In 2007 SFHA partnered with the IRC to build a women’s shelter in the refugee camps on the
Thai/Myanmar boarder. There are nine camps that serve over 155,000 refugees. The gender
based violence programs work in collaboration with the refugee community to provide life
saving services to survivors of gender-based violence. Services provided at the Women’s
Community Center (WCC) include safe shelter, ease management, psychosocial support,
psychosocial playgroups for children and advocacy.
Funding from SFHA allowed the IRC to repair the roof and bamboo floors of the Ban Kwai center and to complete construction on the second women’s center in the Ban Tractor camp. In addition the funding afforded the women clothing, baby supplies, and personal hygiene items. A total of 36 women and 57 children were served in the last nine months of 2008.
